Choose from a warm wall-to-wall barber wool rug or a wide variety of colorful patterns. There are some situations in which a rug needs to be restretched. These include improper installation and, sometimes, the wear and tear of daily usage. Sunlight Fine Rug Care & Restoration has a full staff of highly trained installation experts who use the latest equipment to assure 100% accuracy. We are also equipped to re-stretch previously installed carpets and rugs as needed.

Rug Pads

Keeping a pad under most Oriental rugs not only prevents sliding, but can also prolong the rug’s life by cushioning the impact between the soles of shoes and hard floor surfaces, as well as providing comfort under foot. Not all rugs require padding, particularly those that are thick and heavy. Thin, soft rugs, older pieces, and rugs that have been rewoven or patched all benefit from padding. A pad should be approximately one inch smaller in area than the rug itself, excluding the fringe. Pads come in several materials, such as rubber, felt, polyester and a number of synthetic foams. Shemesh Oriental Rug Care & Restoration favors pads that are made from polyester felt and are usually 3/8” thick. This material tends to be quite dense and mechanically strong, whereas rubber pads eventually crack or become gummy and adhere to the floor or the back of the rug. Many of the synthetic urethane foam pads are too soft and lightweight to provide adequate support.
