Oriental rugs are one of the beautiful decorating pieces that almost every house hold can afford itself.

Put it in your living room or bed room and the all atmosphere is changed immediately. Whether you own a wool rug , Persian rug or Turkish rug the main thing with oriental rugs is to keep them in good shape . Cleaning an oriental rug is recommended once a year ideally . the main thing to keep in mind in that sense that since these are handmade rugs you should never try to clean them at home with a regular vacuum machine .  the reason is that machines will probably ruin the delicate fibers .

Machine made or handmade rug ?

The first step after you decided that your rug needs a cleaning is to actually determine if it’s a machine made rug or hand knotted one ? Check the backing of the rug where usually you will find a manufacturer tag . There you will see the specifications of the rug : country of origin , type of material ( e.g.  wool , silk , cotton , etc. ) . And how it was manufactured: by a machine or handmade.

The other sign is to look at the fringes. if they are cemeteries it means it was made with a machine ,cause no man can hand knotted a perfect fringes .

How much does it actually cost to clean an oriental rug?

Every company has its different pricing, but the ballpark of oriental rug cleaning is somewhere between $3 – $5 / sqft . that pricing usually is for cleaning only and will not include removing stains or pet odor / urine . That usually is being priced separately since it will need a special treatment. As a rule of thumb, oriental rug cleaning, is always done by hand by an expert – no exceptional cases . so make sure asking your rug cleaners about the process .

Tips to keep your Persian rug in good shape:

  • Make sure you don’t walk on it with your shoes
  • Use padding. Pads diminish the Friction between the rug and the floor . it also accumulate the dust so it doesn’t penetrate the rug’s fibers .
  • Put scothguard – scothguard is a Teflon protection that’s been sprayed on the rug , usually after its been thoroughly cleaned . when there is a spill , like wine for example , on the rug the scothguard layer will accumulate most of it and will save you lots of money for color restoration

Owning an oriental antique rug is like owning a piece of art , but one that needs care and maintenance .

“Dear Haim,
It has been so very busy here, thank God, that I never had the chance to formally thank you for the absolutely beautiful job you and your team did with our rugs and sofa. I know when a job is superior and such is the case, much to my surprise, upon entering the apartment after you completed the work.

Thank you again – you will ever be our service provider etc…“

Sunlight Customer, Oriental Rug Cleaning

A few weeks ago, I had Haim Shemesh clean my sofa & I was very pleased. He was professional, the price was reasonable & my sofa looks brand new again!

Sunlight Customer, Oriental Rug Cleaning

I had Haim Shemesh from Sunlight clean all my area rugs. He did a fabulous job! They are all handmade Orientals and he took them to a place that soaks them in a tub and hand washes them the way it’s supposed to be done. They look so much better and brighter Haim came to my apt to give me an estimate, took the rugs, then delivered them back to me a week later. He even helped me set them back up, including moving furniture around to do so. Prices were very reasonable. I highly recommend doing business with him!
